I had no idea my lifelong struggle
with emotions would lead to
a life-or-death wake-up call…
And ultimately, to
the work I love doing today.

Managing difficult emotions can feel scary, overwhelming and exhausting.
I get it… I’ve spent most of my life pushing down and running from mine.

I get it… I’ve spent most of my life pushing down and running from mine.
but here’s what I’ve learned…
but here’s what I’ve learned…

From the earliest age I found my worth in accomplishment + perfectionism.
My inner “hustler” continued to dominate as I married, had four kids, started homeschooling and built my writing career. I found myself in a hamster-wheel world of 18-hour-work days and 4 hours-of-sleep nights.
I figured I must be OK because I seemed to be handling it all… right?
Then July 2017 happened.

Then July 2017 happened.
I had an excruciating headache for about a week, and a trip to the emergency room revealed I had a vertebral artery dissection: a serious medical condition that can result in stroke or death.
I was rushed to a specialized hospital where I was told repeatedly “you’re lucky to be alive.”
Two weeks later, I had a second vertebral artery dissection–something that seemed unfathomable even to the medical staff.
The doctors could only label my dissections as “spontaneous events.” But in the quiet of the neurological ICU, God gently reminded me of how I’d ignored the needs of my mind, body and soul for years… and how decades of running from it all had led me to this rock bottom, life-or-death situation.
“You know why you’re here,” God said.
“Do I have your attention now?”

I spent the next 9 months on my back recovering, which gave me lots of time to hear from God. LOL
He told me plainly that this was my second chance, and that this emotional-avoidance lifestyle had to stop.
I wanted to change, but didn’t know where to start. I knew God’s promises for me, so I wondered, “what keeps me from believing them in my heart? Why am I still stuck in these people pleasing, performance and perfectionism patterns?”
So I began learning everything I could about how God designed our brains, bodies and emotions to work together–specifically the neuroscience behind how we can “know” truth but not live from it.
I also wanted practical ways to deal with my big emotions (because those didn’t stop). 🤣 I needed something more than “just read this Bible verse,” but any tool I used had to line up with Scripture.

My emotional healing wasn’t an overnight process (and still feels messy some days), but now I know…
• How to calm my nervous system (before processing my feelings)
• How to get curious about my emotions (no more running from them)
• How to uncover the thoughts and beliefs underneath my patterns (even the ones I think will never change)
• And how to acknowledge my feelings, discern what is true, and choose how to respond (now my 3-step ADD Method for managing emotions).

And I’ve realized something important about emotional confidence…
The goal isn’t to never feel overwhelmed, anxious, angry or hurt.
Emotional confidence is knowing what to do when those emotions show up—so they don’t have to control how you live.
Today, that’s what I have the privilege
of helping other Christian women learn too.❤️

Now as an ICF-Certified Coach (ACC, CPLC) and certified NeuroCoach™, I’ve spent nearly a decade coaching hundreds of Christian women—and reaching hundreds of thousands more through my book, podcast, courses and resources.
Through it all, my goal is simple: helping women learn practical, brain-based and biblically grounded tools to manage overwhelming emotions and break free from patterns like perfectionism, people pleasing and anxiety.
I share these tools in my bestselling book Emotional Confidence, on my award-winning podcast and YouTube channel The Christian Mindset Coach, and through my coaching programs and DIY resources.
An update on my life today…
My amazing husband and I just celebrated 25 years of marriage, and our four incredible kids are now teens and young adults and doing big things in the world (like my daughter, who is a corpsman in the Navy. Hoo-yah!)
And can I just say… I’m SO grateful we have Jesus as our anchor through this season?
You know, parenting teens and young adults, the approaching empty nest, and all the other adventures of midlife… (perimenopause, anyone?!). 🤪
I’m sharing this to let you know that I’m a real person…
And that, just like you, I still have moments where I feel overwhelmed, exhausted, discouraged, alone, disappointed (you name the emotion)…
BUT… the difference is… now I know what to do with those feelings when they come-a-calling.
And THAT has radically changed my everyday confidence and peace—not to mention my relationships, my marriage and even my walk with the Lord.

So… if you can relate to any of my story…
And if you’re ready to learn a different way to handle difficult emotions, but wondering…
“Holy cow… where do I even start?!” 🙂
