Ever needed a vacation from your vacation? I sure have. Exploring new places is fun, but the truth is, that what most families on vacation really need is one thing: Rest. True, soul-filled replenishment. And while that sounds like a tall order, it’s totally possible! Here how this family of six is making it happen year after year… and how your family can have restful family vacations too (really!). 21 fantastic tips here!

  1. Yes! I think that’s how some of these changes happened for us. We were tired of coming home from our vacations more exhausted then when we left! LOL I hope you’re able to have a truly restful family vacation this summer!

  2. These are excellent tips! My husband and I used to joke in the same way that we needed a vacation from vacations. We started implementing some of the ideals you listed and will add to now that I read this 🙂 Family vacations have been so much more relaxing. BIG YES: Disney World = not relaxing. Beach house = super relaxing.

  7. Oh, I just laughed reading this because I am the culprit in my family too. But God has taught me so much the past few years about how those type of vacations are NOT what our family needs right now. And now that we’ve made the switch to more “chilled out” vacations with lots of free time and open plans, we’re finding so much more rest and peace from them. But I have to admit that those first few days are still really hard for me because it takes me that long to just SIT and NOT have major plans (which is totally against my nature!). I hope you enjoy your beach vacation! Sounds wonderful.

  8. I had to click on this link and read up…. see we’ve just decided on a beach vacation for our family this year (after the season ends) and my boys told my husband that he could not plan a bunch of things for us to do each day and travel all around “seeing stuff” since they want to play on the beach and enjoy our hotels waterpark. I burst out laughing at my husbands befuddled look because it’s ME! I am the culprit. I can not sit still. When we travel I like to get out and explore everything all around us; soak it all in and do as much as we can. I truly do not think I can sit on a beach for 3 days without going nuts but I sure am going to try since the whole family wants to relax and enjoy.

  9. Thank you, Rebecca! Yes, time AND effort to relax… that’s a good way to put it. But it’s effort well-spent (once you can get to that relaxation point!) LOL Thanks for sharing. 🙂
